Austin Real Estate agents are getting through COVID-19 together
What makes the real estate community strong is our exceptional support of each other. The power of this ecosystem is & always will be the network. A few weeks ago, we announced the Real Estate Austin Data Cooperative, an ongoing survey to monitor & track Austin real estate market conditions through this COVID-19 crisis.
Our primary purpose was to focus exclusively on the Austin real estate market because what first attracted our team to Austin wasn’t the music scene or the food scene, but the people. If you live in Austin, you understand. There is an overwhelming sense of community, openness, and loyalty that surrounds this city – from the coffee shops to real estate agents.
Since we started, more than 100 Austin-based real estate professionals provided their thoughts on important questions such as:
- What is the impact of the market downturn on real estate agents?
- What are other agents doing to manage losses?
- Which tools help to overcome the negative effects?
- What to expect from the post-crisis market?
- …and more
Part 1: Respondent profile
Part 2: What to expect from Austin Real Estate market
Part 3: The response of Austin’s Real Estate market to pandemic
We tried to find out which concerns Austin real estate agents have, and how confident are they in Austin’s real estate market in general. Though the majority of real estate professionals are concerned about what the crisis means for their career, most of the agents are very confident in their brokerages and are very satisfied with the response on brokerages to the pandemic.
Part 4: The work and life of Austin Real Estate Agents after COVID-19
COVID-19 pandemic changed the work process for many businesses. We asked real estate professionals about how their work and life were changed due to quarantine. As well as which tools are helping the real estate community to boost productivity with social distancing.
Part 5: Lessons learned during the pandemic
In the end, we asked every respondent a very simple, but important question: “What have you learned over the past few weeks in dealing with this crisis?”
We are publishing some of the responses below.
People love to panic, but being prepared helps mitigate the crisis. There will be opportunities that come out of this too.
John
We must encourage others to self-isolate and I learned to gently do that with folks that still want me to show up where there are people with no concern about the virus.
Peggy
Good times are very short-lived.
Jim
I’ve learned that it is more real than I initially thought. That I really should be better about saving and not counting on constant money coming in and that you really never know what’s going to happen, so I should work on doing everything faster than I want to get done and not be lazy about it.
Corey
Being resourceful is going to be extremely helpful during this time. Relying on relationships will always be a factor, but online lead generation, virtual tours, and sight unseen purchases are going to be huge.
Audra
That I spend too much time on social media and not paying attention to things that actually matter. And I’m an armchair epidemiologist.
Nathan
Go with the flow. It’s not the first market downturn I’ve been through. Stay connected to other brokers and agents and help each other out. People still have to move. Don’t panic. Only check the news once a day. Pray, take care of me, read my bible, and listen to positive podcasts.
Sheena
Take it day by day. Stay on top of market news. Stay healthy and positive. Give yourself a break and don’t be too hard on yourself and others- especially family. Be resilient and be flexible.
Christina
I think this experience will make working remotely more acceptable and more commonplace.
Nancy
The world is fragile. People are not. I have seen so many people band together to get through this pandemic, such as volunteers in the medical community flying to NYC to help… amazing.
Raj
We are all vulnerable to this pandemic. However, it’s better to double my efforts regarding my business than to sit by idle and wait for the end of all this. It’s also great to see so many people helping each other for a change.
Richard
